We've got a new look AND Freshers is approaching!

Well, it's been a good couple of weeks since we last posted a blog... So in case you've not been keeping an eye on our Facebook or Twitter, or have been living under a rock for the past week and a half, then here's the latest news from Radio Hud.

The big news is our rebrand. We've gone from this:

To this...

Which we're sure you'll all agree, looks a damn sight better than the previous one. We launched the new logo on Monday 9th September, at 12 Noon on our Facebook page, and we've had a lot of positive feedback from students and staff alike. So, when you see us at Freshers, our merchandise will have this logo on it, rather than that green and white headphone job.  So, that leads us nicely on to talking about Freshers Week, which starts on Monday 23rd September.
We'll be at a lot of events, including:

Monday 23rd September sees the first event of the week - HudCrawl - Start this massive event in the SU Bar from 6pm, where Radio Hud DJ's will be providing you with some tunes!

Wednesday night is HudSocial, which sees first societies first social, including ours. We'll have a few Radio Hud DJs on for you from 7pm - 11pm. If you fancy coming down to talk to us, maybe you've got a show confirmed for this year and you want to meet some of the team, then it'd be great to see you there. Most members will be there from 8pm!
Of course, Friday is the big one - HudFest. There will be a range of Radio Hud DJ's involved, and our Station Manager may even get involved at some point, but you'll have to wait and see on that one! We'll be able to bring you a line up next week as to who's on when!
It's not just night events we'll be at. You'll be able to catch us most of the week, including Wednesday and Thursday when most of the societies do their thing, and bombard you with freebies (and/or bribes, trying to get you to sign up). Make sure you come and find us, and get some freebies from us!
Oh...and we should probably mention that we've got a couple of sponsorships this year too! We are proud to reveal that this year, Radio Hud Breakfast will be sponsored by Camel Club, which in turn means we can offer discounted entry to all our members, AND we'll be running competitions throughout the year for you and your friends to gain Free Entry!  We have also joined forces with Parish, who will be sponsoring a show on a Thursday afternoon, meaning our members will also get discount there too. There may be a few other things in the pipeline, but you'll have to just have to wait and see about that!
We have also announced the line-up for Radio Hud Breakfast, which will run from 9am until 11am this year.
Monday - Ben Duke & Callum Wade
Tuesday - Brett Punnett & Natalie Eaglen
Wednesday - Alex Humphries & Sean Wright
Thursday - Josh Carter & Alex Humphries
Friday - Tom Maguire & Ell Davis
So, that's it for now. We'll bring you another blog during Freshers Week, so keep your eyes peeled!

Freshers Update & "Ch-ch-ch-changes..."

Well, it's been a while since the first Radio Hud blog, so it's about time we brought you another one.

Preparations are now well underway for Freshers and the next year of broadcasting, with freebies to give away at Freshers being looked at, the new programme schedule nearly complete and a few other developments going on behind the scenes (but we can't reveal too much about that just yet!).

Firstly, with Freshers only 4 weeks away, you should be aware of the line up by now! If not, then you've probably been on a different planet for the past couple of weeks.

Monday sees the first ever 'HudCrawl' event, which is basically Huddersfield Student Unions' very own bar crawl- "Kick off our Welcome Week 2013 evening programme with a big start, and get to know Huddersfield town centre with our t-shirt tour of bars, ending up in popular club venue Tokyo. We'll have marker pens, glow sticks and sweets along the route, as well as bottled water and stewards to make sure you have a great night."
Tuesday sees the first 'headline act' take to the stage, as part of 'HudMagic'. TV's very own High Jinx will be the main act! - "Fancy something a little different? Join us in the Union bar for an evening of entertaining magic with High Jinx as seen on the Jonathan Ross Show. What better way to get to know your new class/housemates?"
The Wednesday of Freshers Week is 'HudSocial'.  Quite a lot of the sports clubs and societies will be holding their first socials during the evening, so if you want to get involved with a particular society, why not find out a bit more about them during their first social of the year?
Thursday brings 'HudComedy', which sees BBC3's Lee Nelson headline, so you know it'll be a laugh!
If all that wasn't enough, then Friday brings what we think will be the highlight of Freshers Week - HudFest! Live music from a few bands with The Hoosiers headlining, PLUS upstairs sees an 'Ibiza' themed room, with Radio Hud and Let's Get Funked warming you up before BBC Radio 1's Scott Mills takes to the decks!  There'll also be a Silent Disco, which Radio Hud have control over one of the channels for, so expect some massive tunes!

Moving on, and as mentioned previously, the programme schedule for the 2013/14 broadcasting year is getting increasingly packed, with some great shows returning from last year, as well as new shows from returning members and keen-bean newbies who have already got their proposals in!  If you want to be considered for a show, then send your proposal in to radiohudprogrammecontroller@gmail.com.
New for this year, we're also bringing in a news team.  As part of the news team,  you will be working underneath Natalie Eaglen, our Head of News, collecting stories suitable for air, focusing on the stories effecting you in the SU, on Uni campus, and in Huddersfield. For more information, or to register your interest, please email our Station Manager, Alex Humphries, radiohudstationmanager@gmail.com

PR & Marketing - We're looking for a handful of people to help us promote the radio station. You'll be working under our Heads of PR & Marketing, Ross Martin & Kirsty Macaulay, designing posters, coming up with new ways to market and promote the radio station, letting people know about any events we've got coming up, amongst other things! For more information, or to register your interest, please email our Station Manager, Alex Humphries, radiohudstationmanager@gmail.com

Now, as you may have guessed from the blog title, change is on its way... We can't give too much away, but a new-look, new sounding Radio Hud is coming very, very soon. Make sure you keep an eye on the Radio Hud Facebook page and Twitter feed for all the latest news!

The First Blog

So here it is... The first official blog from the sound of student life, Radio Hud!

First of all, as we approach a new year of broadcasting, here's a look back at the 2012-2013 broadcasting year.
We had to postpone the start of broadcasting for a couple of weeks due to technical issues.  However, when we started broadcasting we welcomed back shows from the 2011-2012 broadcasting year, including the likes of 'Wicked Wednesdays', 'Student Entertainment Weekly' and 'That Tuesday Evening Show', as well as a whole host of new shows, which developed superbly as we went through the year.  Josh Carters' Alternative Lunch, Out The Box, Team Talk and The Callum Wade Show were all great additions to the station, and only got stronger and developed further as the year went on.
Instead of a whole load of different shows first thing in the morning like in the 2011/12 broadcasting year, we created 'Radio Hud Breakfast' which was a real success.  We're sure that it will continue to be a success when we return to the airwaves.
The 2012-2013 broadcasting year was by far the best year the station has seen since its launch in 2009. We saw improvements across the station, including reaching an agreement with the Students' Union meaning we are able to broadcast in the SU Cafe all day, every day in the next broadcasting year. March saw some of the best programming the station has ever seen, as Radio Hud covered the Students' Union elections.  Live programmes with the candidates for each position being grilled by our very own Pete Crowther and Danny Parkinson, coverage of Q&A sessions, podcasts AND coverage of the big night itself - RESULTS NIGHT!  The team involved did a brilliant job, and it's something we're looking to do as a station again in the coming broadcasting year.

Looking to the coming broadcasting year, it's going to be a big one for the station, as we will be relocating to a  brand new studio in the LLC building at some point in 2014. Add that to the plans we have for events, SU Election coverage in 2014, and of course FRESHERS!

Freshers-wise, we've got loads going on. We'll be in the SU Bar during Freshers Week, showcasing some of the Radio Hud talent, and we plan to broadcast all our Freshers activity through our online stream!  Make sure you come along and say hi to us, and if you're interested in getting involved in the station, our team will be happy to chat to you a bit more about who we are, what we do, roles available and how you can listen to us. Towards the end of Freshers week, there will be HudFest, which is always a great event, and we'll be involved with that too, but you'll have to wait on further details on that one!

Thanks for giving our first 'Station Blog' a read!
